Campus placement season moves fast. Companies visit, collect resumes, shortlist from the stack and often run tests the same week. Your resume is the first filter, and for most final-year students it is also the first resume they have ever written. This guide shows how to build a clean, one-page campus placement resume that your placement officer and recruiters can read in under a minute.

Start with your college's rules

Many placement cells give a mandatory format or template. If yours does, follow it exactly and use this guide only for the content. Ask your placement coordinator about three things: the page limit (almost always one page), whether a photo is expected, and whether CGPA or percentage should be shown. Companies also sometimes upload your resume to their own portals, so keep the format simple.

The right order of sections

For students with little or no work experience, this order works well:

  1. Name and contact details
  2. Career objective or short summary
  3. Education
  4. Technical skills
  5. Projects
  6. Internships (if any)
  7. Certifications and achievements
  8. Extracurricular activities and positions of responsibility

Put Education near the top because recruiters on campus check eligibility first: degree, branch, CGPA and backlogs.

Contact details

Use your full name, mobile number, a professional email (not a nickname address), city and, if useful, your LinkedIn and GitHub links. Check every link opens. Do not add your date of birth, caste, religion or home address unless your college format asks for it.

Education section

List your qualifications from latest to oldest in a small table or aligned lines:

  • B.Tech (Computer Science), ABC Institute of Technology, 2022 to 2026, CGPA 8.1 / 10
  • Class 12, CBSE, 2022, 88 percent
  • Class 10, CBSE, 2020, 91 percent

Use the same scale as your college (CGPA or percentage) and be accurate. If you have an active backlog, do not hide it; companies check marksheets. Keep the focus on what you can do.

Skills: be specific and honest

Group skills by type so the reader can scan:

  • Programming: Python, Java, SQL
  • Web or tools: HTML, CSS, Git, MS Excel
  • Core subjects: data structures, DBMS, operating systems

Do not list a skill unless you can answer a basic question about it. If an interviewer asks about a language on your resume, they expect you to code in it.

Projects matter most for freshers

Projects replace work experience, so describe them well. For each project give the title, technologies, and two or three bullets covering what you built, what problem it solved and what you personally did.

Student Attendance Tracker (Python, Flask, SQLite) * Built a web app where teachers mark attendance and students view their records. * Designed the database for classes, students and daily attendance and wrote the report page. * Tested with sample data for 120 students and fixed duplicate-entry bugs.

Do not pad with tutorial clones you cannot explain. Two or three real projects beat six vague ones. If you have a GitHub repository, add the link.

Internships, certifications and achievements

If you completed an internship, mention the company, duration and what you worked on. Certifications from reputed platforms are useful when they match the job, but a long list of unrelated certificates adds clutter. Under achievements, include verifiable items such as coding contest ranks, hackathon positions, scholarships or paper presentations.

Positions of responsibility

Campus roles show teamwork and leadership: club coordinator, NSS volunteer, sports team captain, event organiser. Write one line each with scope, for example: "Led a 12-member team to organise a technical fest with around 600 participants." Use real numbers only.

Sample objective for campus placements

Final-year B.Tech Computer Science student with hands-on experience in Python, SQL and web development through two academic projects, looking for a software engineer trainee role where I can apply problem-solving skills and keep learning.

Customise it per company. A generic objective for every application is easy to spot.

Mistakes placement cells see every year

  • A resume over one page with tiny fonts.
  • Different phone numbers or emails on the resume and the portal.
  • Skills such as "MS Office, internet" taking space while real skills are missing.
  • Spelling mistakes in the company or technology names.
  • Copy-pasted objectives from the internet.
  • Fancy colours, icons and photos that confuse parsing software.

Before you submit

Save the final file as a PDF named like Aarav_Mehta_BTech_CSE.pdf. Read it aloud once, ask a friend or senior to review it and run an ATS resume check to confirm the text is readable. Key takeaway

A strong campus placement resume is one page, accurate and easy to scan: education first, real projects next, honest skills and short bullet points. Everything on it must be something you can explain confidently in the interview.
