Python Developer Resume in India: Fresher and Experienced Samples

How to write a Python developer resume for the Indian job market, with skills to list, project and bullet examples for freshers and 2 to 5 years experience.

Python is one of the most in-demand programming languages in India, used in web development, automation, data analysis and machine learning. That also means recruiters see a lot of Python resumes. To stand out, your resume must show not just that you know Python, but what you have built with it and what difference it made.

This guide covers the structure, skills, project and bullet examples for Python developers at the fresher level and for 2 to 5 years of experience.

What recruiters look for

  • Core Python knowledge: data structures, OOP, error handling, virtual environments and writing clean, tested code.
  • A framework or specialisation: Flask, Django or FastAPI for web; pandas and NumPy for data; Selenium or scripting for automation.
  • Databases: SQL and basic design; sometimes MongoDB or Redis.
  • Tools and practices: Git, REST APIs, unit testing, Linux basics, Docker and cloud basics for higher levels.
  • Proof of work: projects, GitHub activity or production experience.

Resume structure for a Python developer

  1. Header with links to GitHub, LinkedIn and, if you have one, a live project or portfolio.
  2. Summary of two or three lines.
  3. Technical skills grouped by category.
  4. Experience (for experienced candidates) or Projects (for freshers).
  5. Education and certifications.

Keep it to one page for freshers and up to two pages for experienced developers. Use a simple single-column design that ATS can read.

Technical skills section example

  • Languages: Python, SQL, JavaScript (basic)
  • Frameworks and libraries: Flask, Django, FastAPI, pandas, NumPy, Requests, pytest
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB
  • Tools: Git, GitHub, Docker, Postman, Linux, VS Code
  • Cloud and deployment: AWS (EC2, S3), Gunicorn, Nginx

List only what you can answer questions about. If you have used a tool only once for a tutorial, leave it out or mention 'basic'.

Fresher Python developer: sample projects

Projects are your main proof, so give each one a short description of the problem, your stack and your contribution.

  • Resume Analyser Web App | Python, Flask, SQLite, Gunicorn: built a web application that extracts text from PDF and DOCX resumes and returns an ATS-style score with improvement suggestions. Designed the database, wrote the scoring logic and deployed the app on a VPS with Nginx and HTTPS.
  • Expense Tracker | Python, Flask, Chart.js: created a budgeting app with category reports, CSV export and user login; used by 25 classmates during testing.
  • Web Scraper and Price Alert | Python, Requests, BeautifulSoup: built a script that tracks product prices and sends an email when the price drops.
  • REST API for a Library System | Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL: implemented CRUD endpoints with authentication and wrote 30 unit tests with pytest.

Add GitHub links, and make sure the README explains how to run each project.

Experienced Python developer: example bullets

For 2 to 5 years of experience, show scale, ownership and results.

  • Developed and maintained 20+ REST API endpoints in Flask serving about 50,000 requests per day; added caching that cut average response time by 35%.
  • Migrated a legacy reporting module to PostgreSQL with optimised queries, reducing report generation time from 12 minutes to 90 seconds.
  • Wrote pytest unit and integration tests that raised coverage from 45% to 85% and reduced production bugs.
  • Automated a daily data-cleaning pipeline in Python and pandas, saving the operations team about 10 hours a week.
  • Containerised services with Docker and set up CI with GitHub Actions, shortening deployment time from 40 to 10 minutes.
  • Mentored two junior developers and conducted weekly code reviews.

Use only numbers that you can explain. If you do not have exact metrics, describe scale (number of users, modules or team size) honestly.

Sample summary lines

Fresher: Python developer with hands-on experience building Flask web applications and REST APIs. Published three projects on GitHub, including a resume analyser deployed on a VPS. Seeking a junior backend developer role.

2 to 3 years: Python backend developer with 3 years of experience building REST APIs and data pipelines using Flask, PostgreSQL and Docker. Improved API performance by 35% and increased test coverage to 85%. Looking for opportunities to design scalable backend systems.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing 'Python' with no context. Show what you built with it.
  • Too many unrelated technologies. A focused stack is more credible.
  • No links. A GitHub link with clean READMEs builds trust.
  • Tutorial-only projects. Add your own features or a real use case.
  • Skipping testing and deployment. Even small projects can show tests and a deployment.
  • Long paragraphs. Use short, achievement-focused bullets.

ATS tips for developer resumes

  • Spell technologies the same way job posts do (for example 'PostgreSQL', 'REST API', 'Django').
  • Place skills in plain text, not in graphics or bars.
  • Use standard headings: Skills, Experience, Projects, Education.
  • Include keywords from the job description where true.

Check your result with the ATS Resume Checker, compare with a real job post in Resume vs Job Description and read our software engineer resume guide for more advice.

Prepare for the interview

Expect questions on Python fundamentals (lists vs tuples, decorators, generators, GIL), your frameworks, SQL and your projects. Practise with the Interview Question Generator, which creates technical and behavioural questions from your resume.

Key takeaway

A strong Python developer resume is focused, evidence-based and easy to scan. Lead with your stack, show projects or work with measurable outcomes and keep the format ATS-friendly. Build and preview it in the Resume Builder and refine it for every role.

Frequently asked questions

Should a Python fresher include school marks?

Include your degree, college, year and CGPA or percentage. Add 12th marks only if they are strong or the application form asks for them. Skills and projects matter more for developer roles.

How many projects should I list?

Two to four good projects are enough. Choose those that use the technologies in the job description and that you can explain in detail, including design choices and what you would improve.

Do I need Django and Flask both?

No. Know one framework well and understand the basics of the other. Recruiters prefer depth in a stack over a long list of half-learned tools.

Is a GitHub profile necessary?

It is not mandatory, but for developer roles it is one of the best proofs of your work. Keep your repositories tidy, write clear READMEs and pin your best projects.
